Our Love Story
It was New Year’s Eve going into 2020. Friends gathered at an apartment in South End Charlotte to celebrate a night filled with champagne and dancing.
Before walking into the party, Haley’s best friend (and Maid of Honor), Sam Street, told her there was someone Haley needed to meet.
Wearing a black sequined dress, Haley strutted into the party, excited to see her friends... and maybe meet someone new. When she rounded the corner into the main room of the apartment, she locked eyes with a 6-foot-5 man, and it was game over. His name was Nicholas Cottone, and he was the most handsome man she had ever seen. This was the certain someone Sam had mentioned... THANK YOU, SAM!
Throughout the night, the two kept making eyes at each other and tried to play it cool during casual conversation. After midnight, they went their separate ways, wishing they knew when they would see each other next.
A month later, they ran into each other again. This time, Nick made sure to get Haley’s number from a mutual friend. After a few flirty exchanged texts, he asked her to go on their first date.
In the weeks that followed, they grew closer bonding over their love for delicious food and wine. Nick couldn't resist Haley’s charming sense of humor, while Haley was smitten by Nick’s kindness, cooking skills, and his adorable golden retriever, Charlie.
On March 1, 2020, Nick officially asked Haley to be his girlfriend. Just fifteen days later, COVID-19 began its global spread. Facing an unexpected test early in their relationship, the pandemic ultimately strengthened their bond and love for each other.
The next three years were filled with milestones of moving in together, traveling to new places, supporting each other during times of loss, celebrating moments of success, and growing more in love every day.
On Sept. 3, 2023, Nick got down on his knee and asked Haley to marry him. The couple was visiting Kennebunkport, Maine, that weekend for a close friend’s wedding. Nick had been planning the proposal for months. They celebrated the day with Haley’s parents and Nick’s mom, who flew in for their engagement.
The couple recently bought their first home together and now live in Kannapolis, North Carolina, where they've been busy making their house a home. When they’re not doing that, they’re chasing Charlie and their new puppy, Honey—both of whom will be at the wedding!
Haley and Nick’s favorite weekend getaway is to Charleston, South Carolina. The couple chose the Lowcountry for their wedding destination because of its beautiful coast, fresh seafood, and southern charm.
As they count down the days until they say, "I do," the couple is in full wedding planning mode. They are SO excited to have all their loved ones in one place to celebrate as they begin the rest of their lives together.
